Responder programsIn development
Helping organisations coordinate trained volunteers and staff.
Some organisations already have people trained in first aid close by — at a surf club, a venue or a council site. Responder programs are being built to help them see who’s trained and available, find recorded safety assets nearby, and practise together. They work alongside emergency services, never instead of them. Not yet offered to organisations or members. If you run trained volunteers or staff, register interest and we’ll keep you updated as it develops.

How it’s intended to work
Running a program, and taking part in one.
Programs use the same safety asset records as the public map, so members can be pointed to recorded equipment near where help is needed. These journeys describe the intended design; details may change before release.Run a program
- Set up the programChoose the area it covers, the training members need and the program’s rules.
- Approve membersReview applications or invite people, and check their training before they take part.
- Run practice exercisesSend a practice request, see who accepts, and see which recorded safety assets are nearby.
Take part
- Join a specific programApply to it or accept an invitation, and agree to its terms yourself.
- Say when you’re availableYou choose when you can be asked. Membership doesn’t put you on call.
- Take part in exercisesAccept or decline each practice request. You can leave the program at any time.
Clear boundaries from the start
- Organisation-run
- Each program belongs to an organisation that is accountable for it. Guardian Civic provides the tools and safety asset records; it doesn’t run response.
- Members choose
- People opt in to a specific program. There’s no general “responder” status.
- Practice first
- Programs start with exercises. Any use beyond exercises needs separate approval.
- Alongside emergency services
- Guardian Civic doesn’t take emergency calls or send emergency services. In an emergency, call 000 first.
